Prac:3
Prep - Circus Theme

For my third Teaching prac I was placed in a prep classroom. When I arrived at the classroom for the first time I found out that the theme for the term was the Circus. I was not expecting this theme at all. I had never even heard of a circus theme for a classroom before. However, my mentor showed me the units work for the term and I was then able to visualise it and it all started to come together. It was quite a fun theme to teach with prep children. In science we looked at movement and investigated the different characters of the circus and how they moved. The children then had to look at the differ ways in which they could move their bodies. For example, with their legs they can bend them, run, jog, jump, skip etc. with their heads they can nod, shake, twist etc. In SOSE/History we looked at what was a circus. This involved looking at the different characters, acts, animals, foods, merchandise etc. in which you might see at a circus and why. In art the children would create something different about the circus each week. We created such things as circus animals, circus tents, circus trains, circus clowns etc.
Overall, this unit was such a fun and engaging unit for the children and it was a fun unit to be a part of teaching. It involved a lot of hands on activities and student discovery.
Below I have included some of the art I taught to these preppies during my prac. I have also included a picture of a clown that I created from a picture I saw online. I cut out the face of the clown and the students were able to place their face in the clown - they absolutely loved it!
